Avoid Expensive Repairs at the Hand of Jack Frost!

We are all too familiar with winters might - frosty mornings, frozen car windscreens and the need to ramp up the central heating, seems to be an popular feeling at the moment!

Although around our little pocket of Lincolnshire we do not experience the snow and ice in as extreme doses as other parts of the UK we still understand what is meant by the big freeze.

As temperatures drop, the water in your pipes at home are experiencing a risk of freezing and ultimately bursting.
A burst pipe is not only a huge inconvenience but can also result in a costly repair. At Mayne Gas Heating we see this problem all too often, particularly when temperatures fluctuate as dramatically as they are doing so now.

As a home owner it is your responsibility to maintain your own water pipes. This is something which is often at the last of your priority lists when it comes to maintaining a happy home and juggling kids, work and pets! To help protect your home we have come up with a quick guide of things to be mindful of during the winter months...

Are Your Pipes Insulated Efficiently?
If any of your pipes are exposed to the elements or your home is going to be left for a period of time without the heating running it is important to check they are well insulated, also check for any bends, gaps and ensure all fittings and valves are protected too.

How Often Is Your Heating Running?
Even if your are likely to be away from your house for a period of time, it is advised that you keep the heating running on low. This will mean there is a continuous supply of water flowing through the pipes and will help to avoid the water in them freezing.

Where Is Your Water Tank Stored?
Many properties have the water tanks in unheated areas such as lofts and garages, in these circumstances it is essential that the insulation on the tank is checked and ensure that it is suitable to avoid any dramatic changes in temperature.

When Was Your Boiler Last Serviced?
Mayne Gas Heating recommend that your boiler is serviced every year. Just like regular eye tests, and dentists, your boiler is essential to your health too. Without this functioning at its best you could be left with expensive bills or your home left without heating or hot water.
