It's that time of year again when we start begrudgingly switching the heating back on. After a lovely long summer, the cold snap certainly hits hard. But if like many others, you are noticing a banging noise in your pipes now the heating is back on, don't leave it for the problem to get worse.
The banging or knocking noise you're hearing is usually down to one of the following issues:
1. Faulty valves;
2. Pipes not correctly clipped and therefore banging against floors or walls;
3. Trapped air;
4. Loose washers.
The most common one, especially for this time of year, is trapped air. When water cannot move freely between pipes and into faucets it can create the knocking or banging sound along the pipework.
Clear trapped air in your pipes
If you know a thing or two about your system, this can be pretty easy fix, by following these steps, you might be able to solve the issue yourself:
1. Switch off the water at the main house supply;
2. Flush the lines by slowly opening all faucets, one at a time;
3. With the main water supply still switched off, flush all your toilets;
4. This prompts all water to leave your home through supply lines and should help to clear the pipes;
5. Slowly
turn back on your main water supply.
And as simply as that, your pipe banging sound should be cleared.
If the issue does continue, this is likely to be one of the other issues, from faulty valves or loose washers. Therefore it is always best to call your local and reliable plumber for help on
