ECO 4 Energy Saving Scheme
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) is a UK government backed scheme, funded by the energy suppliers, which aims to improve energy efficiency across the UK. The scheme launched in 2013 and happens in phases, phase 4 is currently live. The initiative requires energy suppliers to cover the cost of installing energy saving measures to properties in need, at a small fee, or no fee to the home owner. Since the scheme became live in 2013, over 2.4 million homes have benefitted having energy efficient measures installed.
ECO4 is as much about insulation as it is about heating and the grants will include this is your project. These include loft, solid wall insulation (SWI) such as external wall Insulation (EWI) and Internal wall Insulation (IWI). If you do not qualify for ECO4 under the usual eligibility criteria, there is also the LA Flex route via the local authority as well as The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) which provides home insulation only so there is something for everyone.
