How to Cut Your Water Bill | Mayne Gas Heating

Darren Mayne • Feb 12, 2019

Bills still piling up from Christmas? The last thing you need now is to be hit with a large unexpected water bill - follow this tips and save!

How often do you stop to think about how much water you're using?

It isn't something which crosses our night every time we twist that tap. We are so privileged to have running water in our homes that twisting that tap can become all too easy.
Have a think next time, how much could you really cut back.

Dish Washing
If you own a dish washer, and no I don't mean your other half... be sure to only switch it on when it is completely full. Not only does this save on electricity but water too. Switching it on on a full load will half the amount of time it is used and therefore saves water!

If you are still one of the thousands of people doing hand washing, always fill a bowl or the sick with warm water instead of leaving the tap running. Try it - just the once though mind.
If you doing all the washing up under a running tap, that single bowl will fill up 3-4 times over. Using the same water, starting with the cleanest of items and working your way up will still ensure everything has a through clean while also saving water.

Teeth Clean
How many of you are guilty for leaving the tap running when cleaning your teeth?
Think about it, why do we do it?

All that water pouring into the sink, for what?
It takes less than a second to turn the tap back on when we need to rinse so just stop and think about the £££ you're pouring away!
You can save 3,000 gallons per year just by turning off the water when you brush your teeth!

Showering
Showers account for 17% of a homes indoor water use.
Reducing the time spent in the shower or leaving it to 'warm up' for a while when we do something else all makes a massive difference to water costs.
Be mindful of the temperature you need and even if it means standing there for 10 seconds longer, it is so much more beneficial to be in the shower while it reaches temperature.
Reducing your show time from 10 minutes to 5 minutes will save over 12 gallons of water a year - that's 45 liter bottles full!
